I've always wanted to see the tulip fields of Holland but travel to Europe is not a priority right now.
Since we are living in the Nevada desert, there are no flower farms anywhere close to me. For a two-hour flight from Las Vegas, I can see the tulip fields of Oregon.
The Mister and I have always wanted to visit Oregon. So we planned a perfect springtime trip to Portland that included a visit to one of the largest spring events in the state.
Have you heard about the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn? Neither have I, until I saw amazing tulip photos popping up on Facebook last year. And I become insatiable, I could not get enough.
If flowers are your sort of thing...this is an experience you shouldn’t miss, especially if visiting Oregon in April is feasible. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
TIPS FOR YOUR VISIT TO THE WOODEN SHOE FESTIVAL: |
- Woodburn is approximately 45 min drive south of Portland. I recommend spending 1-2 hours here (more if you're into photography).
- Be at the farm when it opens @ 9AM and AVOID the weekends (the farm can attract as many as 30k visitors during the festival).
- Photographers can come in as early as 5AM for the sunrise and access the field with less people for that picture perfect moment.
- There ARE tons of activities for kids (for additional costs) but to go, park, walk the tulip fields, take the tram and hay rides is $5/person or $20/car - totally worth it.
- Timing is everything. The farm is open all-year-round but the tulip festival normally runs from mid-March till May. Check their website for daily bloom updates and plan your visit around it.
